Brian Cummings teaches English at the University of York and is the author of Mortal Thoughts: Religion, Secularity, & Identity in Shakespeare and Early Modern Culture (Oxford University Press, 2013) and Bibliophobia: The End and the Beginning of the Book (Oxford University Press, 2023). He is Fellow of the British Academy and of the Society of Antiquaries, and recipient of a grant from the Leverhulme Trust (2020–2023) to write on Erasmus.
