Long abstract

The conclusion summarises the key approaches and findings of the book, which investigated urban heritage across various global contexts to understand the complexities of conservation, management and development in a globalised world. It outlines how the first half of the book focused on sustainability in historic cities and neighbourhoods, while the second half focused on architectural heritage and the integration of environmental considerations in building design. It argues that sustainable development, encompassing environmental, human and cultural aspects, is crucial for future urban life. In turn, it critiques the homogenizing effects of globalization on architecture and advocates for localised, culturally sensitive urban planning that prioritises the needs and values of local populations.
