Long abstract | This chapter reviews 16 women writers, 1776-1848, from the Iberian Peninsula: Portugal and Spain. Portugal fought a civil war after Napoleonic occupation, while Spain chose reaction, and those choices are reflected somewhat in the different writers here from these two traditions. Politics here range from revolution to Catholic reaction, and genres cover the usual range, stretching from theatre to verse to a variety of prose genres, from novels to journalism. |
