Long abstract | Cheryl Finley’s ‘Löis Mailou Jones in the World’ examines the work, life and influence of Löis Mailou Jones as they relate to the themes of travel and migration – both literally and figuratively. As an artist and designer, Jones practiced, taught and utilised theories of travel and migration, most notably in her Art-Deco-era textile designs inspired by Art Nouveau and Chinoiseries, and the paintings from her Africa Series (1950s-1980s) inspired by her travels to Haiti in the 1950s and Africa in the 1960s and 1970s. |
