Long abstract	Chapter Eight also concerns thermal comfort in the context of Tunis, evaluating its interior rather than exterior aspect. Athar Chabchoub and Fakher Kharrat analyse the city’s colonial heritage, offering a comparative study of indoor thermal comfort in two downtown buildings representing the colonial and contemporary periods. Focusing on the physical, psychological and physiological aspects of comfort, they investigate the thermal performance and energy consumption of these structures. The results of this analysis demonstrate that the preservation of both traditional and colonial buildings is imperative for the sustainable conservation of urban heritage given contemporary environmental concerns.

Athar Chabchoub is an architect pursuing an academic career path. After her master’s degree, obtained with honors in 2013, she joined in the same year, the teaching staff of the National School of Architecture and Urbanism of Tunis (ENAU) in parallel with her research career as a doctoral student. Holding a doctoral degree in architectural sciences since 2019, her dissertation explores thermal comfort and its impact on the energy consumption of colonial and contemporary buildings in Tunis. She is currently engaged as a Faculty lecturer, researcher and coordinator of the LaRPA research laboratory (PAE3C research team, ENAU).

Fakher Kharrat is a professor of architecture specialising in the study and restoration of historical monuments and cultural heritage conservation. Currently the director of the School of Architecture and Urbanism of Tunis and head of the Research Laboratory in Heritage and Architecturology (LaRPA), he has participated in various international projects related to architectural heritage as well as its conservation and enhancement.
