Assistant Professor of Art History at Leiden University

Laura Bertens is assistant professor of Art History at Leiden University, with a Ph.D. in bio-informatics. Her research interests lie in the fields of memory studies, contemporary art and cultural studies. She analyses the construction and functioning of cultural and communicative memories in art, as well as everyday culture. She has published book chapters and articles for peer-reviewed journals such as Third Text, Holocaust Studies and German Life and Letters, on topics ranging from cultural memory in music videos to the Berlin Wall Memorial, Holocaust remembrance in art and the construction of memory through museum audio guides.
