| Long abstract | Mark Spayley, a commercial artist, wants to marry the daughter of Duncan Dullamy, a devious businessman. Dullamy agrees if Mark can help sell the new breakfast cereal he has launched. Mark changes its name to the unappetising-sounding “Filboid Studge” and creates an advertising poster showing tortured figures in Hell, with the caption “they cannot buy it now”. This depiction of the cereal as something unpleasant but good for you strikes a chord with many people and it becomes a runaway success. Dullamy makes a fortune and marries his daughter off to somebody of a much higher social standing than the impoverished artist Mark. |
