Iris Pakulla is a postdoctoral scholar at the Visual and Digital Cultures Research Centre at the University of Antwerp. In 2025, she received her Ph.D. in Social Anthropology, with her research hosted by the Mongolia and Inner Asia Studies Unit at the University of Cambridge. Her doctoral research focused on labour relations, health, digital activism and the geopolitical economy at Oyu Tolgoi, one of the largest underground mines in the world. Recently she published 'The Making of Existential Politics: Dealing with Infertility in a Gobi Desert Mine' in Inner Asia. In addition to her academic pursuits, she is a documentary filmmaker.
