| Long abstract | Looks at the life and ministry of Fr John Turner, the second Deaf person to be ordained a Catholic priest in South Africa in 1978. His pastoral approach won over the hearts of his Deaf parishoners but he experienced the frustration of many Deaf people leaving the Catholic Church for evangelical churches. These Deaf people complained about the treatment they had received at school at the hands of the Dominican sisters who taught them. |
