Ian Wood taught at the University of Leeds from 1976 to 2015, retiring as professor emeritus. His monographs include The Merovingian Kingdoms (New York: Routledge, 1994), The Missionary Life (New York: Routledge, 2001), and The Modern Origins of the Early Middle Ages (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2013). His most recent book is The Transformation of the Roman West (Kalamazoo: Arc Humanities Press, 2018). He was elected to the British Academy in 2019.
